Madeline
Blood Recipient
For Madeline, comfort came in many forms. It was found in the fluffy softness of her best friend Teddy, her mother's arms as she carried her because she was too weak to walk, and through the kindness of strangers who donated blood.
At the age of four, Madeline was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). "She received many blood and platelet transfusions, which not only saved her life, but brought her life," said her mother, Marybeth. "I was astonished how quickly I saw the results of her blood transfusions.
Thanks to blood donors, patients like Madeline have the comfort of knowing that the products they so desperately need throughout their care and treatments will always be there.
Now in remission, Madeline has other reasons for hugging her teddy bear, while her parents and other patients continue to find comfort in the importance of donating blood.
